‘Stay’ by Shakespears Sister stands as one of the most creatively and commercially powerful singles of the early ‘90s, dominating the UK Singles Chart for eight consecutive weeks, one of the longest-running number-one hits of its era.

‘Stay’ was a defining cultural and artistic statement, the track’s dramatic structure and accompanying video shifting from a delicate ballad into a theatrical, gothic climax.

Decades later, ‘Stay’ continues to win new fans through chart re-entries and renewed popularity, most recently cited by Charli XCX as a key influence on her soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’.
